VARs who focus on managing IT Resources will appreciate Netgear’s ReadyNAS 3200, a 2U, 12-bay storage server that includes the hardware and software needed to centralize data across an entire organization, access that information from anywhere (and from any platform—Windows, Mac, or Linux), and backup with multiple levels of protection.
The hardware on which Netgear’s ReadyNAS centers is par for the course: an Intel multi-core processor, 4 GB of ECC memory, 12 SATA 3 Gb/s ports, USB 2.0, and a pair of Gigbit Ethernet controllers supporting load balancing and failover. Sure, you get convenient extras like dual power supplies, fan failure alerts, and high-temperature email notification with auto-shutdown. But the real magic happens when you combine hardware with Netgear’s software efforts.
Multi-volume support for RAID 0, 1, 5, and 6 is an integral part of the package. A feature called X-RAID2 facilitates online expansion and dual-parity for two-disk fault tolerance. Hot-swap and hot-spare support also help simplify management in the event of a drive loss. Off-site replication support to another ReadyNAS and an optional ReadyNAS Vault subscription enable online backup.
